I am Sonnie Carlebach, an Artist and Educator from London.
My work generally crosses the mediums of music, performance, and writing - of sound, body, and mind.
As an artist I explore psychological, philosophical, and mystical phenomenon employing analogue and physical materials to induce texturally rich, contemplative, and provocative experiences. I am interested in how artists can respond to information super-abundance in the contemporary world with minimal, lo-fi, and otherwise alternative means of production that focus on spontaneaity and intuition within the creative process.
I extend these ideas into my teaching practice with an approach based on social engagement, improvisation, and expressiveness to allow students to quickly break down ideas and encounter their own style of learning and creating.
I have worked for several years as a teaching assistant for adults with SEND working in a variety of colleges and classes mainly focusing on media and arts. In September 2024 I will begin a new role as assistant and collaborator to a tutor at the RCA running workshops , seminars, and crits for MA students.
